The opening of the newly built bailey bridge over Londachhu in Dagana has shortened the distance between the dzongkhag administration and four gewogs of Drukjeygang, Khebisa, Largyab and Tsangkha.

The 10-feet bailey bridge connects the 27-kilometre Khebisa farm road with the highway to Daga Dzong.

Earlier, the people of Khebisa had to travel for about three hours to get to the Dzongkhag Headquarters. So, they preferred travelling on foot, taking the shortcut route.

But now with the bridge, the travel time has been reduced to an hour.

“It used to take almost eight to nine hours to reach our village in Kaykana. Now, it takes only 45 minutes,” Bir Bahadur Rai from Kaykana said.

“Largyab Gewog is the furthest gewog. It’s over 130 kilometres away from the dzongkhag. The distance has been shortened to 92 kilometres now,” Sonam Jamtsho, the Dzongkhag Planning Officer, said.

The bridge was constructed at a cost of Nu 6m.
