Former minister Yeshey Zimba denies allegations against him

A month after the Government accused him of policy corruption and official misconduct, Yeshey Zimba says all accusations are not only false but is trying to damage his and DPT’s image.

He also added that the Ministry of Finance had already approved the revised list for tourist standard hotels, and that the 156th cabinet meeting passed it without making any changes.

Meeting with the members of the media, today, the former minister said, more ten other agenda’s were discussed during the cabinet meeting in April 2013.

“What I would like to report is that during the 156th cabinet meeting held on 2nd April 2013, the Finance Secretary, Dasho Lam Dorji reported to the cabinet that the Ministry of Finance had approved the revised list of incentives for tourist class hotels in keeping with the authority vested with the authority by the Sales Tax, Customs and Excise Act of 2000,” the South Thimphu MP said.

On the accusation of the former government approving the list just three days before the end of its tenure in 2013 to deliberately avoid the Parliament, he said, the government is deliberately trying to mislead the people.

Yeshey Zimba mentioned in a press release that the revision of the items for tax exemption do not require to be submitted to the Parliament since such authority has been vested in the Ministry of Finance by the Bhutan Sales Tax, Customs and Excise, Act 2000.

He also said, he chaired the cabinet meetings in absence of the prime minister being the senior most member.
