Zhemgang Town is one of the least developed towns in the country. However, with a few of construction projects afoot, it looks like the town will become a bustling place soon.
The government’s decision to explore possibilities of establishing a college in the dzongkhag has encouraged some residents to construct concrete buildings. Today, already six buildings are being constructed in the town.
“Since we heard a school will be upgraded and also, a university college is likely to be established. I am constructing a house and once complete, I will rent it out,” said one of the residents, Tandin.
Others are also of an opinion that it is a sound decision to construct houses in the town for economic gains. “If a college is opened here, our houses will get tenants to stay. So, instead of keeping our land barren, it is better to avail loans and build a house,” told another landlord, Yesheyla to BBS News.
Business community in the dzongkhag has also gained confidence in doing business. Earlier, they were in limbo, anticipating what kind of business will thrive there.
