The Gyalsey Under-21 Basketball Championship is underway in the capital. Seventeen teams including three women teams are taking part in the championship which kick-started on Friday.

In Yesterday’s match, team Young Boys played against team Trojans. Young boys as its name suggested had youngest players aged between 9-13 years. But, they gave competition to their giant opponents. “When we were young, not many elder players taught us how to play. But today we played in submissive manner and our young opponents are playing very well,” said one of the players from team Trojans, Tenzin Penjor.

Most players from team Young boys are playing in such mega tournament for the first time. “We were able to play well today since elder brothers played fair game with us. However, we could not win the match but I will try next time,” said one of the players from Young Boys, Kinley Wangchuk.

As the match came to an end, team Trojans was declared the winner. This is the second edition of the Gyalsey Under-21 Championship. Neulee Events, a private company is organising it with technical assistance from Bhutan Basketball Federation and financial support from the Bank of Bhutan. The finals will be played on 5 February.
