119 teachers complete De-Suung programme

Hundred and nineteen teachers have completed the two-week integrated De-Suung training programme at the military training centre in Tencholing, Wangduephodrang yesterday.

The Education Minister, Thakur Singh Powdyel, who was the chief guest at the concluding ceremony congratulated the De-Suups for successfully completing the training. He said the values they cultivated and nurtured through this training would serve them and the nation in so many inspiring ways in the years ahead.

De-Suung is a value based personal development programme, with the aim of encouraging citizens to be active in the greater role of nation building.It is also to promote voluntarism among the diverse group of young people and train them so that they will come forward in times of the country’s need.

Completing the month long training, De-Suups took the oath of allegiance, reaffirming to serve the Tsa-Wa-Sum with loyalty and dedication.

The Lyonpo awarded the certificates to the De-Suups.The Chief Programme Co-ordinator,Tashi Tobgay, said the training would help achieve the vision of His Majesty the King.

During the training, the De-Suups were given skill based training that will be useful during disasters, lectures on values and sense of community, harmony and co-operation as a group and members of society.

Some of them told BBS that it was a valuable training programme and expressed their gratitude to His Majesty the King for the visionary programme.

“His Majesty the King initiated this programme, so that we all come together in times of disaster to help rebuild each other lives,” said Pema Wangchuk, a participant.

The De-Suups were also given first hand training on search and rescue operations,preservation and conservation of our unique cultural heritage and traditions and conservation of our pristine environment.

Family members, relatives and friends also attended the concluding ceremony.
