The people of Punakha and Wangdue have a reason to be happy as they are going to benefit from the newly opened eight kilometre Bajo-Shengana Otta seal road.

Till now they have been taking long route via Lobesa to reach from one dzongkhag to the other.

The 8.2 kilometre Bajo-Shengana otta seal road was officially opened by the Work and Human Settlement Minister Lyonpo Yeshi Zimba and the Managing Director of the World Bank Dr. N Gozi.

The Otta seal is a low cost type of black topping the road. Such type of option is mostly used in developed and developing countries for seal extension and resurfacing treatments.

Speaking at the function, the Works and Human Settlement Minister said the World Bank continues to play a significant role in providing access to the rural communities. This Lyonpo Yeshey Zimba said will help develop the rural communities and thus reduce poverty.

The Managing Director of the World Bank said the bank is proud to be a co-partner in the development process of Bhutan.

Works for the construction for the farm road were carried out by the Department of Roads under the rural access project II.

The National Council chairperson, World Bank Officials, senior government officials and beneficiaries attended the function.
