About 190 cases of government land encroachment are currently being surveyed in Paro. Of the 10 gewogs in Paro, eight have government land encroachment cases.

Lugni Gewog reportedly has the highest number of cases with 81.

The size of government land occupied by private individuals measures up to, as high as, three acres

The survey began on January 20. Officials say it could take around a month or more to finish the survey.

Once complete, the cases will be handed over to the Paro Forest Territorial Division for further action.

According to the Land Act of Bhutan 2007, any person committing encroachment on a state owned and private registered land shall be guilty of an offence of petty misdemeanour.
