Verdict not stringent enough

Verdict not stringent enoughSix months sentence to the three men, who misused Bhutanese SIM cards, is not fair, according to the relatives of two Bhutanese who were kidnapped and still have not returned.

Gelegphu Dungkhag Court had earlier sentenced three men for selling over 30 SIM cards to people across the border, who used it for extortion, threat calls and to demand ransom.

The verdict was passed in May.

They said the verdict was not fair as it may encourage others to engage in similar offence.

Of about 13 cases of kidnappings that took place within and across the Gelegphu border in the last few years, two of them have still not returned home.

A 48-year-old driver, kidnapped from Shantipur in India, in September last year and a 15-year-old boy who was taken away from near the Fishery area in December last year, are yet to return.

The Chief of Police, Brigadier Kipchu Namgyel said that they are in constant dialogue with the security forces in India following up of the two Bhutanese who still have not returned home.
