HMK4-Ludrong Memorial Garden-His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo and Her Majesty the Royal Grandmother, Ashi Kesang Choeden Wangchuck inaugurated the Ludrong Memorial Garden, yesterday.

The inaugural ceremony coincided with the 85th birth anniversary of Her Majesty the Royal Grandmother. It was Her Majesty the Royal Grandmother’s desire to convert the 8.35 acre land at Langjophakha in Thimphu into a memorial garden. The garden sits on the bank of Wangchu just across the Tashichhodzong.

Prior to the inauguration, Kusung Thugi Mendrel was offered to Her Majesty the Royal Grandmother. Then His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo and Her Majesty the Royal Grandmother unveiled the garden’s plaque. His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Gyaltsuen also graced the inauguration of the Ludrong Memorial Garden.

Other members of the Royal family were also present during the event. Their Majesties also planted saplings at the garden.

Ludrong Memorial Garden was opened in memory of Her Royal Highness Ashi Wangmo, the daughter of First Druk Gyalpo Gongsar Ugyen Wangchuck, Her Majesty’s beloved father Gongzim Sonam Tobgye Dorji and brother, Lyonchen Jigme Palden Dorji.

The Memorial Garden has walking trails connecting to gazebos and bridges. The southern part has ponds with ornamental gardens. The northern part is developed as woodland with local tree species dominated by pines and oaks.

The memorial garden will also be accessible to the general public for recreation.
