The King’s Cup to begin soon

KingsCup-2014The country’s biggest sporting event, the King’s Cup will kick-off on November 15 at the Changlimithang National Stadium in Thimphu.

Nine teams from Thailand, Nepal, Bangladesh, India and Bhutan will compete for the trophy.

Druk United Football Club and Ugyen Academy Football Club will represent the country.

Top elite football clubs will represent the rest of the countries.

The King’s Cup originated from Jigme Dorji Wangchuck Gold Cup which was held in Phuentshogling in the late 90s.

In 2004, the tournament was renamed as King’s Cup and brought to the capital.

Bhutan Football Federation is hosting the event for the third time, this year.

It will be played on League and Knockout basis.
