Dasho Shingkhar Lam passes away at 86

Dasho Shingkhar Lam- Dasho Kunzang Wangchuk, popularly known as Shingkhar Lam, passed away at the age of 86 at Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Referral Hospital in Thimphu, yesterday evening.

Dasho was admitted to the hospital for a week. He was a stroke patient.

Dasho served as a Tozeb under His Majesty the second Druk Gyalpo in 1944. He also read Epic of Ling Gesar to the second Druk Gyalpo, every evening.

In 1954, Dasho Shingkhar Lam worked as a clerk under His Majesty the third Druk Gyalpo. He introduced Pacham, Durdha, Drametse Ngacham and Peling Gingsum in Tashichhodzong.

Dasho Kunzang Wangchuk also redesigned the National Flag and condensed the National Anthem of Bhutan to six lines from the original 12.

In 1968, he was awarded the red scarf by His Majesty the third Druk Gyalpo as official Private Secretary.

In 1974, Dasho was awarded Coronation Medal by His Majesty the fourth Druk Gyalpo.

He resigned after 41 years of service as Secretary of the Royal Secretariat, Secretary of the Cabinet and Speaker of the National Assembly in 1985.
