His Majesty visits religious sites in India

HM-Rajgir Gridhkuta (Ja-Goed-Phungpoi-Ri).His Majesty the King and the Gyaltsuen visited the ruins of Nalanda University at Rajgir in the Indian state of Bihar, on Tuesday.

Nalanda University was founded in the 5th century AD and is known as the ancient seat of learning.

His Majesty the King and the Gyaltsuen were received by the Rural Development Minister of Bihar.


Their Majesties also visited the Nalanda Archaeological Museum. The museum, established in 1971, houses ancient manuscripts and Buddhist statues, among others.

Later in the afternoon, Their Majesties also visited Xuanzang Memorial Hall and offered prayers. The Memorial hall was built as a tribute to an ancient Chinese traveler – Xuanzang. Master Xuanzang was a student at Nalanda Mahavihara and became the teacher at the same University in the 7th century AD.

Towards the evening, Their Majesties visited Vishwa Shanti Stupa on a hill in Rajgir. It was constructed by the Buddha Sangha of Japan. Their Majesties offered prayers at the Stupa.

Their Majesties then visited Gridhkuta where they offered prayers.
