Shivratri draws a huge crowd- After walking for almost an hour, devotees come to worship lord Shiva on this day at Khopi Dham in Dhamdara as early as 3am in the morning. People say devotees from as far as Kolkata in India come for this particular occasion.

Shivratri, as per the Hindu tradition is considered to be the birth anniversary of Lord Shiva, who in Buddhism is worshipped as Lha Wangchuk.

On this day, devotees visit various sacred places of Lord Shiva to offer prayers. They also observe the marriage ceremony of Lord Shiva and Pavitri.

Meanwhile, Khopi Dham, believed to be over nine decades old underwent a major facelift in the past one year.

The sacred place has come up with better and convenient facilities for the devotees.Shivratri draws a huge crowd

However, despite of the Nu.1.5 million support from the Civil Society Organization, only about 60 percent of development works could be carried out.

The Contractor K.N Dhakal, said they are planning to construct more roads, kitchen and bathing facilities for the people. “Whatever budget we had is almost exhausted.” He said they would be able to carry on with the work if they get more budget.
