The Trashigang District Court has sentenced two men aged 25 and 29 for raping a 17-year-old girl in Trashigang. The judgment was passed last month. The men were handed down sentences of more than ten years and nine years respectively. The case was reported to police in June this year.

According to the judgment, besides having sex with the girl, 25-year-old Pema Dorji had asked the girl to share her indecent photos with other men in return for mobile data and talk time recharges. He was in a relationship with the girl since November last year when she was still a minor.

Moreover, he told the girl to collect Nu 1,000 from 29-year-old Jangchub Pelzang and have sex with him.

Later, Pema Dorji demanded Nu 10,000 more from Jangchub Pelzang and threatened him that he would file a case if he failed to do so. Jangchub Pelzang then paid Nu 3,000 to Pema Dorji.

Following the trial, the Trashigang District Court sentenced Pema Dorji to ten-and-a-half years in prison for the rape of a child above 12 years and for blackmailing Jangchub Pelzang.

Similarly, Jangchub Pelzang was given a nine-year imprisonment for rape of a child above 12 years. BBS learnt that Jangchub Pelzang has appealed to the High Court.

The girl refused to claim compensation from the convicts.
