His Majesty The King graced the opening ceremony of the tenth session of the third parliament this morning. Members of the Royal Family, senior government officials, and other dignitaries attended the opening ceremony.

His Majesty The King was received in a traditional Chhipdrel ceremony by the National Assembly Speaker, the Prime Minister, the Opposition Leader, the National Council Chairperson and other members of the parliament.

On behalf of the parliamentarians, the speaker expressed gratitude to His Majesty The King for gracing the opening ceremony amid His Majesty’s numerous commitments.

The Speaker also offered gratitude to His Majesty The Druk Gyalpo and Her Majesty The Gyaltsuen for gifting the nation and the people with a princess.

“Bhutanese have been the most fortunate to have been gifted a princess on 9th September by His Majesty the Druk Gyalpo and Her Majesty the Gyaltsuen. I, on behalf of the Parliament, express our deepest gratitude to His Majesty The King and Her Majesty the Gyaltsuen and offer prayers for the long life and well-being of Her Royal Highness the Gyalsem.”

The speaker also thanked His Majesty for visiting Japan and the United States in July and having met with global businesses and economic leaders in preparation for Bhutan’s forthcoming economic development endeavours.

The speaker also thanked His Majesty for visiting various regions of the country to ensure the well-being of people and providing Kidu to the people.

Further, the speaker thanked His Majesty The King for visiting and meeting the victims of the Oongar flash flood in Lhuentse that occurred on July 20.

He also expressed appreciation to His Holiness the Je Khenpo and to the Central Monastic Body for administering the most sacred public empowerment of Buddha Amitabha to honour the birth of Her Royal Highness the Princess, and for continuously conducting rituals for the wellbeing of the country and people.

Moreover, the speaker on behalf of the parliament expressed gratitude to His Holiness the Je Khenpo for his compassionate and benevolent gestures.

“His Holiness the Je Khenpo gave a sum of Nu 10 M for old monks living in old age care homes. His Holiness also entrusted the management of the Medicinal and Recreational Park in Sarpang to the Gelephu Thromde which is expected to benefit all Bhutanese in the future.”

Meanwhile, the two houses will deliberate on the BIMSTEC Charter, the Agreement on the Movement of Traffic-in-Transit between the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and the Royal Government of Bhutan and the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities among others during the present session.
