Imagine you are in a massive, interconnected, and immersive online world and you can explore, create, and connect with others in a way that blurs the lines between the physical and digital realms. Well, with virtual reality and augmented reality, these fantasies are now a reality, even for Bhutan. Introducing, Bhutanverse, a metaverse-based virtual space for Bhutan. It was unveiled at the FAB23 Bhutan International Conference in the capital yesterday.

Bhutanverse is a space for Bhutan within the Sandbox gaming virtual world. The Druk Holding and Investments, DHI, who is behind Bhutanverse, has purchased a plot of virtual space in its Metaverse where they can develop games and other attractions.

In the Bhutanverse, global users can experience Bhutan, immersing themselves in the country’s culture, history, and philosophy from wherever they are. It will incorporate motifs, art, and architecture unique to Bhutan.

The idea is that users will experience the Bhutanverse as an avatar, a digital representation or character that represents a user in the virtual world.

With Bhutanverse, the DHI expects to empower individuals, businesses, and creators to shape the future of digital experiences, fostering innovation, and collaborative projects within the Metaverse.

The DHI, together with its partners Smobler and The Sandbox, aims to create a transformative digital experience with the Bhutanverse.

The Bhutanverse is one of the many projects by the DHI that leverage Web-3 and blockchain technologies.

DHI is currently developing Bhutan’s National Digital Identity based on the principles of Self-Sovereign Identity.

Other projects include the development of a national blockchain-based carbon credit platform and a joint venture with Bitdeer to launch a carbon-free digital asset mining data centre.
