Lack of infrastructure in Tareythang and Chhoekhorling schools leading to congestion – Sarpang

The lack of infrastructure to accommodate the growing number of students at Tareythang Primary School and Chhoekhorling Middle Secondary School in Sarpang is becoming a major concern. At Tareythang, the school is facing a shortage of classrooms, while Chhoekhorling is unable to host large events due to the absence of a multipurpose hall. The issue was recently discussed at the Dzongkhag Tshogdu.

Following the start of construction works at the Gyalsung Academy site, there has been a rise in the number of students enrolled at Tareythang Primary School. The influx of students has worsened the issue of congestion, particularly after the relocation of Dorjitse and Wungchhilu villages near the Tareythang Gewog Centre.

Currently, the school is trying to accommodate seven sections with only six classrooms, forcing them to utilize the library as a makeshift classroom.

Tareythang Gup, Dhan Man Gurung says “Without enough classrooms, teachers are doing multi-grade teaching for classes I and II in one classroom and class III and class IV in another.”

The gup added that the gewog needs assistance from the District Education Sector.

Similarly, without a multipurpose hall, Chhoekhorling Middle Secondary is forced to hold all gatherings and meetings at Dekiling Middle Secondary School.

Dekiling Gewog Mangmi Leki Gyeltshen said that the deputy chief education officer is aware of the constraints faced by the school.

“Any kind of meeting has to be organized at Dekiling Middle Secondary School,” said Leki Gyeltshen.

The deputy chief education officer said that the education sector is aware of the problems faced by the two schools.

He added that a fund proposal has been submitted to the finance ministry for the development of infrastructure in the 13th Five-Year Plan.

Established in 2010, Tareythang Primary School has almost 100 students studying between classes PP and VI and six teachers. Chhoekhorling Middle Secondary School has around 800 students.
