Dorji Lopon appoints new principals

The Dorji Lopon of the Zhung Dratshang has appointed new Principals of two monastic institutes in the country. The new appointees were conferred Dhar at the Punakha Dzong today.

43-year-old Sonam Rinchen from Tangsibji Gewog in Trongsa is the new Principal of the Mithrup Lhakhang School in Thimphu. Before his present post, he served as the Kudrung Tshogchhen of the Central Monastic Body.

He began his monastic education at the age of thirteen at the Dechenphodrang Central Monastic School. He graduated from the Lekshey Jungney Shedra in Punakha. He completed his three-year retreat from the Pangkar Drupdhey in Punakha.

And 35-year-old Lam Kinga Norbu from Barp Gewog in Punakha is the new Principal of the Tenchen Goenpa nunnery in Lamgong Gewog of Paro. He was the Lam of the Chhimi Lhakhang in Punakha for three years before his present appointment. He also served as the principal at Semtokha Shedra before that.

He became a monk at seven years of age and completed his studies at the Dodeydrak Shedra and Tango University of Buddhist Studies in Thimphu.

He completed his three-year retreat from Cheri Drupdhey in Thimphu.
