Youth entrepreneurs across the country manufacturing different kinds of products from locally available resources are unable to find a market for their products. In an effort to promote their products across the country, the first-ever national Buyer and Seller meet was held at Gelephu in Sarpang recently.

Around 20 business entities from six districts participated in the event. They showcased various products ranging from soap, carry bags, herbal tea and sanitary pads to shoes which are produced from locally available resources.

“We will not only manufacture the shoes but will also repair the shoes. During the warranty period, if it gets damaged we will take back our shoes and repair it as well,” said Jigme Dorji, the founder of Bhutanese Youth Initiative Project who owns shoe manufacturing business.

“If we do self-marketing, it is costly. So, here we are able to market our products without having to spend. All the 20 entrepreneurs are getting positive feedback and most of them found dealers,” added Karma Namgyel, owner of Drukyul Production that engages in production of

The National Buyer Seller Meet in Gelephu was mainly to help young entrepreneurs to showcase their products to the businessmen community and public for marketing and to connect them with potential buyers.

“With the easing of covid restrictions, the revival of the economy is back to normal and we are promoting private and small-scale businesses. Secondly, businessmen and buyers are not aware of locally manufactured products. It is also to provide a platform for interaction between business promoters and businessmen and to substitute the imported goods with locally manufactured products,” said Kesang, BCCI’s Regional Secretary in Gelephu.

The Bhutan Chamber of Commerce and Industry organised the event with support from Transitional Trade Support Facility.
