MoU between GCIT and TashiCell to develop skills required by industry

Gyalpozhing College of Information Technology in Monggar has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Tashi InfoCom Limited which is expected to develop students’ critical skills required by industry. The MoU signed yesterday also hopes to drive knowledge, research, innovation and intellectual capital in information technology which will benefit both parties.

Coinciding with the Birth Anniversary of the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, the President of Gyalpozhing College of Information Technology and the Managing Director of Tashi InfoCom signed the memorandum of understanding yesterday. Through the MoU, the college will have opportunities for students and staff to work on relevant technologies of Tashi InfoCom Limited.

“The MoU with Tashicell is a commitment from GCIT to build human capital development for Bhutan and global industries like Tashicell to expedite the nation’s progress. Tashicell and GCIT have the same values as us as they recognize the students and the industry need to work together,” said Audrey Low, the President of GCIT.

She says the cooperation will build modern skills and the competencies that are required for Bhutan’s ICT talent.

According to the Managing Director of Tashi InfoCom Limited, Tashi Tshering, the company will hereafter provide learning opportunities to the students through internship programs who may later be employed by the company.  Tashi InfoCom has agreed to provide internship programs for at least ten students annually with a stipend for the duration of a year.

“We are also signing up to become the agents of change as enablers specifically to bring ICT education closer to industry needs, in terms of knowledge and skills, whereby Tashi InfoCom gains work-ready talent with specialist knowledge and practical training and the GCIT benefit by having opportunities for students and staff to work on relevant technologies and challenging problems of Tashi InfoCom,” the MD said.

Through the MoU, Tashi InfoCom has also agreed to provide non-sensitive corporate data to the students for curriculum usage in the area of data analytics and visualization. Tashi InfoCom would also provide research and innovation opportunities to students in the area of 5G technologies and services.
