Thimphu City FC share points with Transport United FC- boosting for Paro FC’s hopes

Transport United FC faced Thimphu City FC in a fast-paced match at the Changlimithang national stadium earlier today. It was a must-win match for Transport United FC to keep their hopes alive for the top two places in the ongoing BOB Bhutan Premier League. The win for Thimphu City FC would also make the task of defending their title easier. But the match ended in a two-two draw.

Today’s game was a defining moment for the top three teams including Paro FC. Both teams were desperate for the three points which will boost their chances for the title. Thimphu City FC drew the first blood with Nima Tshering tapping in a set-piece early in the first half. However, Transport United FC found an equaliser from Dilip Mongar in the 25th minute.

It was Nima Tshering again to put Thimphu City ahead at the hour mark curling in a shot from the box. And with just eight minutes remaining of the normal time, Transport United’s Ugyen Dorji levelled the score gifting Paro FC a breathing space. The result only tilted the chances in Paro FC’s favour. Paro FC’s last two opponents are Gelephu FC, who are at the bottom of the table, and Thimphu City FC. A win over Gelephu FC and a draw with Thimphu City will ensure the Title for Paro FC.

Meanwhile, it is not all over for Thimphu City FC. A win today would’ve made their task easier but they can defend their title if they can beat Paro FC in their last match in October. Thimphu City FC are on the top of the league table with 42 points followed by Paro FC with 41 points and a game in hand.

In the next match, High Quality United FC will face Druk Lhayul FC at Changlimithang tomorrow.
