As an import-driven country, food security has become a major concern for Bhutan during the pandemic. Young people in the country can play a role in ensuring food sustainability, yet they are not part of this discussion. Using the pandemic as a teachable moment, the Bhutan Centre for Media and Democracy (BCMD’s) Youth Summit 2021 helped teach youth about food security and sustainable consumption. The summit showed participants how food insecurity has long-lasting impacts on the ability of a person, community, or country to flourish.
