A landslide at around 1:30 AM today killed a 39-year old woman and her 7-month-old son at Pekarzhing in Chhukha.
According to sources, the child died on the spot and the mother died on the way to the hospital. Police, locals and officials reached the site as soon as they were informed. However, the ambulance couldn’t reach the site due to a roadblock between Rinchending and Pekarzhing. A private vehicle carried the deceased till the roadblock.
There were four members in the family during the incident. Her husband and a 12-year-old son escaped unhurt.
Heavy and continuous rainfall in the region has caused the landslide. Police, Desuups and locals helped to move their belongings to their parent’s home in the neighbourhood. Three more families in the neighbourhood were also moved to a safer place.
