Five offices and seven hotels in Phuentsholing were penalised for violating the tobacco rules and regulations after a surprise inspection. The offices included a government agency, three corporations including two media houses and a private organisation.
The inspection was carried out jointly by the officials from Bhutan Narcotic Control Agency, Police, Customs and Trade on Friday.
A fine of Nu.10,000 each was levied for not having ‘No smoking’ signs put up within the office premises. For some hotels, the penalty was also for not having designated smoking area.
Two individuals were also fined for smoking in public area.
After Thimphu and Samdrup Jongkhar, Phuentsholing is the third town where such an inspection has been carried out.
The team also carried out inspections in the police station and the financial institutions in Phuentsholing.
