May 27, 2012

Tandin Wangchen, 35, won the Mr. Bhutan 2012 title, beating 14 other competitors at the 5th national bodybuilding championship, held yesterday in Thimphu.

Mr. Bhutan won a cash prize of Nu. 95,000 along with the title.

The participants were judged by 6 experts based on their mass, definition, proportion, symmetry and stage presentation.  Unlike last year, this year the participants had to compete in a single open weight category.

The top three contestants will represent Bhutan in the Asian Championship to be held in China.

The top five bodybuilders of the competition will represent Bhutan in the 9th South Asian Bodybuilding Championship to be held in the Maldives.

Sheer Wastage of money and time. It neither promotes our culture, nor is productive economically. But rather is unproductive because they eat a lot to get that body.

Obviously our commentor has never lifted a single barbell or dumbell in his/her life to save their skin. What a naive and narrow minded comment. It takes a lot of hard work, time, and sacrifice to get to where you see some of the competitiors. Sure diet plays a big part towards their goal but I’m sure they are not depriving anyone of their food and resources. This sport encourages a healthy lifestyle and as for your comment on bodybuilding being a money pit for the society look around and you will see many other sports that are just recreational and not promoting any culture or done to generate income. Open up your mind and appreciate some “HARD WORK”
