To improve fiscal policies, boost jobs in the country, and support preparedness projects related to COVID-19, the World Bank provided USD 45 million to Bhutan today.

The budget support loan agreement of USD 40 million was signed in Thimphu between Finance Minister Lyonpo Namgay Tshering and World Bank Acting Country Representative, Tenzin Lhaden.

The World Bank also fast-tracked USD 5 million for Bhutan’s Covid-19 response today. The COVID-19 Emergency Response and Health Systems Preparedness Project is expected to help prevent, detect and respond to the COVID-19 pandemic and strengthen public health preparedness.

The Ministry of Health will implement the project. The project is part of the USD 14 billion fast-track package rolled out by the World Bank Group to strengthen the COVID-19 response in developing countries.
