The Opposition Party, Druk Phuensum Tshogpa calls for unity and solidarity after the country confirmed the first case of Coronavirus (COVID-19) on the night of 5th March 2020.

According to a press release from the Opposition, the party commits to firmly stand by the Government in dealing with the crisis. Putting behind the political differences, the party said, everyone must answer the call of our nation to be united in intent, effort and spirit to fight the disease. The party assures support and cooperation to the government to manage and control the disease from spreading further in the country.

“We are fortunate and blessed to have His Majesty The King personally guiding and overseeing the efforts of the Government in handling the situation.  In order to enable the Government to effectively implement the measures to combat the crisis, we urge the people to maintain calm and cooperate with the Government and relevant agencies during this challenging time. We appeal to the public to refrain from spreading misinformation on social media platforms, hoarding essential supplies and engaging into opportunistic business activities,” states the press release.

The party also offers its heartfelt thanks to His Majesty for personally guiding and boosting the morale of the frontline agencies involved in managing the situation. And expresses gratitude and solidarity to the Prime Minister and the Health Minister for their able leadership during this difficult time.

The press release applauds the sacrifices and continued services beyond the call of duty rendered by all the health officials and staff of other relevant agencies. And the Central Monastic Body and religious institutions for performing prayers to keep us safe from the coronavirus epidemic.

The Opposition calls on the people to join the nation in praying for the quick recovery of the patient who is a guest in the country and extends sympathy to his family and friends.
