The Sarpang District Court, on the 29th of last month, sentenced a 24-year-old man to eleven years in prison for the rape of a minor and incest.

The convict was sentenced to ten years prison term for the rape of a child above 12 years of age and was slapped an incest charge of additional one-year compoundable prison term. However, the convict can pay in lieu of a one-year incest prison term of Nu 45,000 within ten days. If the accused fail to pay within the given time, the prison term will change into non-compoundable.

According to sources, the convict was in relation with his 14-year-old niece, studying in one of the schools in Sarpang, since July 2018 and they went missing from Sarpang on 14th May this year. The parents of the girl lodged a missing person complaint with the Sarpang police and they were later found from Samtse on the 23rd of May this year.

The convict was also asked to pay a compensation of Nu 90, 000 to the girl within a month.
