Upland paddy cultivation was once widely practised in the eastern region as well as in a few districts like Zhemgang and Sarpang. But farmers slowly stopped the cultivation. But there is one man in Lamthang under Goshing Gewog in Zhemgang who still cultivate upland paddy.

Upland paddy cultivation is locally called ‘Pangbara’ in the east and ‘Kambja’ in the western part of Bhutan.
