In absence of a farm road in Yuejoog and Rishoong villages of Senggye Gewog in Sarpang, people are migrating to other places the gewog’s gup says.

The two villages with less than 20 households are not eligible for farm roads as per the current farm road construction eligibility rules.

As of now, the budget is only available if a farm road is over a kilometre long and leads to a village with no less than 20 households.

The Senggye Gewog’s Gup Lachu Man Rai raised this issue during the recent Dzongkhag Tshogdu. He informed the House his gewog has started experiencing gungtong or empty houses due to migration.

“Yuejoog village consists of only ten households and one village in Rishong chiwog as well does not have access to farm road as both the villages do not meet the eligibility criteria.”

After extensive deliberations, the DT meeting decided to write to the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests (MoAF) to review the current farm road construction guidelines.
