The Private Sector Development Committee (PSDC) under the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MoEA) has been officially handed over to the Bhutan Chamber of Commerce and Industry(BCCI). This is expected to bridge the gap between the private sectors and the government in addressing problems related to the private sector.

Inadequate infrastructures, technical skills, improper regulations along the foreign trade routes and taxation are some pertaining issue confronting the private sector in the country. So, through the Private Sector Development Committee, collective recommendations will be mapped to address these issues.

The committee will also represent all the member sectors and approach the government whenever its interference is deemed necessary.

“The committee was already placed under the BCCI in 2008 but it did not function well. From what I heard, the private stakeholders and the government had certain disagreements. Now, the Prime Minister himself said that for the development of the private sector, both the sector and the government should work together. We will work accordingly,” Sangay Dorji, the Secretary-General of BCCI, said.

The committee will also be a guide and advisor to the government on forming policies for the private sector.

With the committee under its wing, the BCCI, as the apex forum that comprises of business representatives from 20 districts, will function as an “Engine of Growth” in the private sector development.
