DPT’s General Secretary Sangay Phurba

The Druk Phuensum Tshogpa says that the Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa President Lotay Tshering’s statement at a meeting with the people of Tsirang is an indication of a desperate attempt to win at any cost with no regard to ethics and morality, the hallmark of healthy politics.

In a news release, DPT states, the DNT has accused the DPT’s retired ministers of “supporting the party’s new candidates going around with money and seeking support”.

DPT issued the news release yesterday following a Kuensel report on the issue.

“These false and baseless accusations tantamount to defamation and character assassination of the people who have served the Tsa-Wa-Sum with complete dedication, integrity and loyalty,” DPT said.

Also, DPT says the DNT president even implied that if DPT comes to power, the supporters of PDP would be targeted.  The statement, the news release states, are clearly meant to intimidate PDP supporters into voting for DNT.

“They will be apprehensive whether they will be treated in the same manner. DPT has never done that even when we were the ruling party and even now we do not have such intention because we are guided by our principle, which is equity and justice,” Sangya Phurba, the General Secretary of DPT, said.

The party added that if it receives the mandate of the people to govern again, it will continue to be “a government of the entire nation and respect every citizen equally irrespective of party affiliation”.

DPT challenges the DNT President to produce evidence to support his statement, which the DPT described as “false and irresponsible”.

DPT says they hope the ECB and other relevant oversight bodies will look into the matter seriously.
