Punakha District Court

The Punakha District Court has sentenced a 42-year-old man to three-and-a-half-years in prison for using fake Nu 1,000 notes.

According to the judgement passed yesterday, the man from Kabisa in Punakha brought three counterfeit Nu 1,000 notes from Jaigoan and spent them in Khuruthang.

The man told the court he received the fake notes from an unknown Indian man in Jaigoan in July this year. He claimed he wasn’t aware the money was fake.

But the court ruled the claims as false. The man had, in his statement to the police earlier, confessed to the crime.

This is the second time the man would be spending time in jail. He had earlier served a five-year term for a drug-related offence.
