Chhukha Dzongkhag finally has a Dzong. The Dzong was consecrated by His Holiness the Je Khenpo today. The ceremony was graced by the Gyaltsuen. People were all smiles as they witnessed the ceremony in the company of Her Majesty the Queen.

The Prime Minister and the cabinet ministers also attended the consecration ceremony.

After the marchang ceremony, the Gyaltsuen visited the Kuenra of the Dzong and lit butter lamps and offered prayers. Following that the consecration ceremony began presided over by His Holiness the Je Khenpo.

During the ceremony, people of Chhukha offered the Body, Speech and Mind’s mandala to the Gyaltsuen. After that, the Gyaltsuen inaugurated the Dzong.

The ground works for the Dzong construction began in 2002 and was expected to be complete by March 2006. But in January 2004, the construction of the Dzong was halted as the government found the area to be unstable.

However, works resumed in April 2006. And after taking about six years, the Dzong today stands with unique architectural features.

Built at a cost of Nu. 280 million, the Dzong will house the administration and Rabday of the Dzongkhag. The dzong was constructed on an area of about 9.8 acres.
