India’s sugar export ban will not be a major concern, at least for now

India's decision to stop the export of sugar from tomorrow will not be a major concern for Bhutan, at least for now. The economic affairs minister says major sugar-consuming factories have already been directed to stock up. And the Food Corporation of Bhutan says it has enough sugar for general public to last more than a month. The Indian government announced the sugar export ban last week.

A farmer in Bartsham Gewog scripts a success story, sets example

The government has always pushed the farming communities in the country to move beyond subsistence farming. It has encouraged the farmers to take up agri-businesses. However, not many farmers are serious about it, citing issues of climate change, inconsistent market platforms and fluctuating commodity prices. But on the flip side, some are making strides in making agriculture a bankable business. One such farmer is Jamyang Phuntsho, 32, from Dzongthung village in Bartsham Gewog.
