Kela-Tangsibji farmroad to be ready by March next year

By March next year, Kela chiwog of Tangsibji Gewog in Trongsa will have a direct and shorter road connecting them to their Gewog Center. The works to construct 10 kilometre Kela-Tangsibji farm road began recently. The residents will reach the Gewog office within an hour, unlike today which takes around two to three hours.

Youths draft declaration to address climate change

Bhutan is known globally for its pristine environment and carbon negative status. The generations to come have equal rights over this environmental wealth as does the current generation. To ensure that the rich environment is preserved for all times to come, a group of youth from College of Natural Resources and Jigme Singye Wangchuck School of Law have drafted declaration to address climate change and global warming.

Woman succumbs to a hit and run case

Police in Paro are still looking for the driver of a vehicle who allegedly ran over a 32-year-old woman and killed her on the spot. The incident took place at Bondey town at around 6 pm yesterday. Sources say the woman from Bondey is normally seen walking around under the influence. She is survived by her daughter and her mother.

Smoke and stench from an asphalt plant worry residents- Bumthang

People of Tangsibi village at Ura Gewog in Bumthang are complaining of smoke and bad smell from an asphalt or blacktop mixing plant below their village. They say the plant is posing a health risk to the community and was installed without public consultation.

De-suung National Water Service Project benefits more than 570 farmers- Semjong

Bhutan's first and largest integrated water supply project is completed and handed over to the farmers yesterday. The project initiated last year in Dangreygang in Semjong Gewog of Tsirang will supply reliable water for drinking and irrigation. It was undertaken as a pilot project under the De-Suung National Service Water Project. Prime Minister Dr Lotay Tshering inaugurated the scheme.

Khangdari-Godari Irrigation Scheme to benefit some 150 families- T/Yangtse

It took more than ten years for help to come their way. Some farmers of Yangnyer in Trashigang and Jamkhar Gewog in Trashi Yangtse have been facing irrigation water shortages for more than a decade. But they will get new irrigation channels by next year. The constructions under the Khangdari-Godari Irrigation Scheme began on Friday under the water project.

Exorbitant price of goods even after tax cut

The exorbitant price rise of goods in the market was one of the issues raised during the question hour session of the National Assembly on Friday. The Monggar MP, Ugyen Wangdi from the Dramedtse-Ngatshang constituency said the rise in the price of essential commodities has affected especially the low-income group.
