Ngultrum value still lower than INR in informal market

Despite the economy showing improvement since the rupee shortage in 2012, Indian rupee is still being traded at a premium in the bordering Indian town of Jaigaon. In informal market, Ngultrum’s value has decreased by 7 to 8 percent.

House razed in Paro

A fire completely burnt down a one-storied home in Shari Gewog in Paro, on Monday. The house, which was empty at the time, is believed to have caught fire at around 12.30 AM.

Man apprehended for attempt to rape

The police in Trongsa have apprehended a 32-year-old man from Trashigang for allegedly attempting to rape a 75-year-old woman. The incident occurred on Septmeber 19 at Pangzur under Langthil Gewog in Trongsa.

Five die in accident

Five people, four male and one female, died on the spot when the vehicle they were travelling in went off the road at Wachey about 27 kilometres from Wangdue towards Trongsa, yesterday.
