NA Amendment Bill to be deliberated

The National Assembly Amendment Bill of Bhutan 2014 will be deliberated in the coming days of the Assembly session. The legislative committee introduced the Amendment Bill in the house, yesterday. The committee was directed to review the National Assembly Act 2008 in the first session of the Parliament.

NA tables the LG Amendment Bill

The Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly tabled the Local Government Amendment Bill 2014 for deliberation in the house yesterday. The Deputy Speaker explained in the house why the bill needs to be discussed. Pema Lhaden interviewed him after the session.

A deeper look at GNH

An international programme themed- Experience Gross National Happiness in Bhutan: From contemplation to action- is underway in Paro. The opening day of the programme yesterday was held in Thimphu. Organised by the GNH Centre Bhutan, the programme is being attended by international participants and some 70 local youth.

Crafting prayer wheel

It is believed that spinning a prayer wheel has the same benefits of chanting a prayer. Prayer wheels or Mani Dungkors come in different sizes and can be most commonly seen around religious structures. But how are these wheels made. In Paro, a 64-year-old man has been doing this for over 30 years and plans to keep going for as long as he can.

Thimphu Police opened its Mothithang Community Police Centre today. The Chief Representative of JICA Bhutan Office, Yumiko Asakuma inaugurated the centre. With this, the capital city now has six community police centers. The first three community police centers at Taba, Changjiji and Kasardrupchu were opened in November 2012.

 

His Majesty the King grants audience to DeSuups

His Majesty the King granted an audience to the volunteers who are undergoing the 10th batch DeSuung training programme. Including the 123 volunteers currently being trained, there are 1,173 DeSuups in the country.

BCSEA declares class XII results

The Bhutan Council for School Examinations and Assessment (BCSEA) declared class 12 examination results in a press conference in Phuentsholing this afternoon.

November 11: Gross National Happiness Day

The National Assembly has decided to observe November 11 as the Gross National Happiness Day from now. March 20 will continue to be observed as the International Happiness Day. 

Mipham Kabum Wanglung ends

A Leopard found dead at Serkem Forest

Gelegphu Range Officials found a dead leopard at the Serkem Forest under Jigme Chhoeling Gewog, on January 24.
