Future National football team in the making

Bhutan Football Federation says Bhutan would have a good football team in future, if talented youth are trained at an early stage. In order to tap the potential from an early age the Federation is organising various grassroots coaching camps in the Country.

Over a thousand students from 13 lower and higher secondary schools in Monggar participated in an inter-school games and sports meet at Gyalpoizhing HSS. Sherub Reldri HSS was awarded best discipline team of the year, with cash prize of Nu. 5,000 along with the certificate. Winners will now take part in the regional level of three Dzongkhags of Monggar, Lhuentse and Trashi Yangtse.

Chinese delegation arrives for the border talks

The eight member Chinese delegation from the Government of the People’s Republic of China has arrived in the Country this morning. The Vice Foreign Minister, Liu Zhenmin, is leading the delegation.

Biometric system introduced

Foreigners, except diplomats and official passports holders, visiting Bhutan will now be required to enroll their finger prints through a biometric system at entry points. The Department of Immigration launched their new system this morning.  The system, first of its kind, will be in place at certain entry points in the country within this week.

Japan proposes to open their embassy

The Chairman of the Standing Committee of Foreign Affairs of the House of Representatives from Japan, Katsuyuki Kawai, said that Japan is proposing to open their embassy in Thimphu by April next year.

Dorokha in darkness

Residents of Dorokha have been living without power supply since last Friday. The officer -in-charge from the Electricity Supply Division in Phuentshogling said they have been trying to locate the fault, which in between Bosokha to Tashiding.

By-election for Darla Gup’s post next month

The electoral process for by-election of Darla Gup in Chhukha started today. The selection of candidates through zomdus or meetings in every Chiwog in the Gewog began today.

An inter-departmental football tournament is underway in Gelegphu. The match began on Saturday. Despite the summer heat, about hundred spectators come to watch the tournament every day. Seventeen teams from Sarpang and Gelegphu are participating in the tournament. The final is slated for September 7.

Patang- who is it for?

Bhutanese men- be it ministers, elected members of the Parliament, government secretaries or other important post holders in the government-- are entitled to wear Patang or a ceremonial sword. The Patang is considered a symbol of authority.

4 Gewogs of Dorokha Dungkhag come together

A four-day Annual Sports and Cultural event was recently held in Dorokha. Besides sports competition, a musical competition called the ‘Dorokha Idol’ and a Dzongkha essay competition were also held among different schools under Dorokha Dungkhag.
