Sonam Tshering appointed as Lam of Monastic School in Kabji

His Holiness the Je Khenpo appointed Sonam Tshering as the Lam of the Monastic school in Kabji in Punakha. Sonam Tshering, 31, is from Tsimakha in Chhukha. He joined the Punthim Dratshang at the age of 11 and studied in various Buddhist schools in the country including Dechenphodrang Shedra and Tango Buddhist College.

A brawl over gypsum load

An argument broke out between angry truck drivers in Pemagatshel when one group of truckers accused the other group for taking away gypsum load without following proper procedure.

SAARC Interior meeting urges networking among police authorities

The Fifth SAARC Home Ministers meeting held on Wednesday in the Maldives, urged for a continued regional cooperation to fight against terrorism, women and drug trafficking and child prostitution. It also urged the member states to strengthen networking among police authorities of SAARC member countries and also enhance information sharing among the law enforcement agencies.

For the first time, the Department of Information and Media under the information and communications ministry has produced an animated short film based on the popular Bhutanese folklore. The department says the films are to preserve and promote folklore which are very much part of the Bhutanese tradition and culture.

Accident at Toeb Menchuna kills a taxi driver

A 35-year-old-man died on the spot after the Wagon R Taxi he was driving fell some 15 feet below the road at Toeb Menchuna. The incident took place at around 11 pm yesterday about 20 kilometers from Wangduephodrang towards Thimphu. The taxi was heading to Thimphu from Wangduephodrang.
