15 compete for Mr. Bhutan 2012

Tandin Wangchen, 35, won the Mr. Bhutan 2012 title, beating 14 other competitors at the 5th national bodybuilding championship, held yesterday in Thimphu.

Parents and Teachers of THSS address hostel shortage

Students’ dropping out of Tendu Higher Secondary School in Samtse in the middle of the academic year is increasing every year. The teachers and the parents citied the lack of boarding facility as the sole reason. To address the problem, the teachers and the parents got together and decided to construct a makeshift hostel within the school campus.

Gola Bazaar’s man

Garja Raj Rai, 41, is a well-known man in Gola Bazaar in Sibsoo. He owns the only electronics repairing shop in the town. From mobile phones to television sets and rice cookers he can repair almost any available electronics with the people there.

Farmers experiment litchi cultivation

Litchi or Lychee, a fruit with a rough brown shell and sweet white flesh around a large shining brown seed, comes with summer. It is considered one of favourite fruits by many Bhutanese, especially those living hot places. It is juicy and refreshing.

Man mauled by bear, in stable condition

A 43-year-old man is currently undergoing treatment at the Wangdichholing hospital in Bumthang after he was mauled by a bear. The incident took place last morning when the victim and his two friends were collecting cordyceps at Dedrup in Chhoekhor Gewog.

FCB to import vegetables which cannot be substituted

The Food Corporation of Bhutan, FCB, will import those vegetables which cannot be substituted from within the country on an interim basis. This was decided today after the Prime Minister met with the local vegetable wholesalers and retailers in Thimphu.

School with no plastics

Wangdichholing Lower Secondary School in Bumthang is reinforcing the plastic ban in the school compound.  This is being done to mitigate plastic related wastes in the school.

No water, farmers choose cardamom plantation

With no irrigation water for paddy fields the farmers of Norgaygang Gewog in Samtse are slowing giving up paddy cultivation. Instead they are planting cardamom.

Pattern of HIV epidemic changing

The pattern of HIV epidemic in Bhutan is changing. Marginalised and vulnerable populations are increasingly bearing the brunt.  Recognising this shift and the challenges it poses, the National HIV/AIDS & STIs Control Programme and the UNDP conducted a National Stakeholders Meeting on Advocacy and HIV Prevention among Men having Sex with Men, MSM and Transgender People at Paro today.

5th National Bodybuilding Championship to begin tomorrow

The 5th National Bodybuilding Championship will start from tomorrow at the swimming pool complex in Thimphu. The Bhutan Bodybuilding and Weight Lifting Federation will introduce the open weight category that is similar to the International Federation of Bodybuilder’s Mr. Olympia Championship where the top 10 will be selected in the final.
