Those involved in offence against National Heritage still on the loose

A total of 13 elephant tusks and a rhino horn were stolen from six Lhakhangs across the country since August this year.  A police record shows a total of 91 offences against the cultural and national heritage last year alone. This year a total of 13 such cases have been reported.

Four elephant tusks were robbed from Ugyentse Zangdopelri Lhakhang located above Taktshang monastery in Paro. The incident apparently took place on the night of December 4. The incident happened when the caretaker was at his home above the Lhakhang.

Community action pilot project on alcohol successful: Local Leaders

The community action pilot project on alcohol has helped reduced the use of alcohol drastically, according to the health officials and local leaders of Monggar and Lhuentse. The pilot project was introduced in these two districts in 2010.

Three die in accident

Three people died in an accident in Monggar. A five-year-old girl child died on the spot while the one-month-old girl child died on the way to the hospital. The driver, who was referred to Guwahati Hospital, succumbed to severe head injuries this morning.

Traditional house razed

A two storied traditional Bhutanese house was razed to the ground in Paro this morning. Nobody was at the house during the incident.

Missing officiating Principal returns home

(Update): The officiating Principal of Chendebji Primary School in Trongsa, who went missing on December 18, returned home yesterday. Ugyen Jamtsho came back on his own and was seen knocking the door of his house at around 8:30 pm. Though unhurt, the man doesn’t seem to remember anything according to the Dzongkhag Education Officer.
