Thimphu District Court sentenced a 29-year-old man to five years imprisonment today for possessing controlled substances. The sentence is non-compoundable.

The verdict says the man possessed more than prescribed quantity. He had said the contraband substance were for self-consumption.

The man was also under the influence of controlled substance at the time of arrest.

The convict, who is a law student, was arrested in March, this year, from Semtokha in Thimphu.
