With the increasing number of vehicles, widening the road in Zhemgang town has been vital for the residents. The town is expected to wear a new look by mid of this year with a broader and smoother road, and streetlights.
Today, with the beginning of widening works in the core town area, people are happy to see new development in the area. Earlier, the road was filled with potholes and it was narrow as well.
“We see the road being widened, electrical lines have been properly laid under the ground and we, the people feel happy to see all the developments being executed smoothly. We would like to thank the government,” said a resident, Ugyen Dorji.
“I see major changes such as widening works and streetlights,” said Nima Wangchuk.
The Dzongkhag Administration said the widening works began in October last year. It is expected to be complete by August this year.
“Our main objective is to fulfil His Majesty’s vision of creating a better living environment with all the necessary facilities,” said Kinzang Dorjee, the Dzongrab.
The project is being executed at a cost of Nu 25 M.
Apart from the major facelift of a core town area and underlying electrical lines and telephone wires, the Dzongkhag has installed LED street lights along the stretches of the new municipality area.
Although Zhemgang is considered as one of the most remote districts but with these major developments, it is unlikely to remain so, not for long.
