A 55-year-old woman, working as caretaker at a gewog centre in Paro, was reportedly battered by her superiors. The incident occurred on September 16. The victim was reportedly manhandled by the Administrative officer and the Gup of Naja Gewog.
On the day, the victim had gone to inform the administrative officer that her car windows had been broken. The officer suspecting the caretaker to be the wrongdoer had manhandled her. The gup was also reportedly involved.
The victim is currently recuperating at the RENEW shelter in Thimphu. A RENEW official said she came to the shelter on September 17 with a swollen eye and other physical injuries. The case was also reported at the Paro Police station, but was withdrawn by the victim yesterday.
Unofficial sources said the two officials were detained at the station for a night. The Administrative officer could not be contacted. Meanwhile, the gup said the case had been internally resolved between the two.
