Evaluation of 137 websites in the country shows that most of the government and private websites in the country are not well-protected and updated.
The evaluation was conducted for the second National Website Competition organised by the Department of Information Technology and Telecom.
It was carried out with an objective to encourage agencies to use their websites as a major channel for information sharing and services.
The ICT officer of Department of Information Technology and Telecom, Darshan Thapa said such evaluation is necessary in the country.
“Before this, we didn’t have such a system where we could assess individual private and government websites.”
He also said Bhutanese websites lack security and regular updates. Darshan Thapa said this could be because webmasters in the country do not prioritise the maintenance of their websites.
Of the 137 government and private websites evaluated, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests took the first position.
The Department of Information Technology and Telecom took the second place followed by the Ministry of Finance.
The websites were evaluated on the basis of usability, reliability, content, security and privacy, citizen participation, additional features and electronic and mobile services.
