To enhance cyber security in the country, Department of Information Technology and Telecom launched a website called Bhutan Computer Incident Response Team (BtCIRT). Five employees of the department will respond to cyber incidences in the country.
Officials from the department said all cyber incidences to date were handled on an ad hoc basis by the Internet Service Providers.
With the launch of the website, the central point of contact for the cyber incidences in the country is created. BtCIRT will provide awareness and solutions to cyber security issues.
“In case there are incidences of virus or systems and websites being hacked, then the individuals or organisations can report to the CIRT team,” said ICT Officer, Sonam Choki.
She also said they will have proactive services where the BtCIRT team will continuously monitor government websites and applications to check for loopholes and weaknesses in the system.
The project was funded by the World Bank at a cost of US$ 250,000.
