The Ministry of Labour and Human Resources has revised the wage rates for the National workforce by about 30 to 35 percent.
“When we try to look at the wage revision, we try to explore the inflation rate and we try to ensure that the purchasing value of the wage rate does not deteriorate and they are able to support and they are well compensated for their skills,” said the Department of Labour’s Director, Jigme Thinley.
The wage rates are applicable only to Bhutanese employed by government agencies, for works executed directly by the agencies.
According to the ministry, the wage rates are also the only minimum rates and do not restrict any employer from paying above the minimum amount.
The revised wage rates came into force beginning this month. The last revision was done in 2011.
