A tiger is reported to have killed a bull yesterday at Karshong village under Nubi Gewog in Trongsa. And another bull in the same village attacked by the tiger a few days ago also succumbed to the injuries yesterday.
The animals were attacked in about a kilometre distance from the village. Nearly 10 bulls were killed within this month, according to the villagers. An insurance scheme to compensate the affected owners was planned during the Tiger Day celebration last year, however, the scheme could not be implemented as parties could not come to a consensus. On the other hand, officials said there isn’t any smart intervention for now.
And with the tiger predation on the rise, farmers are worried that the community’s strong breed of cattle will someday go extinct if kept unchecked.
According to forests officials, about six tigers dwell along the territories of Trongsa-Bumthang districts. And the present affected community suspects that two tigers are currently on the prowl in their village periphery.
