Suspension of farm road construction in Ula Chiwog under Rubesa Gewog in Wangduephodrang has made the people living there unhappy. Ula is one of the least developed Chiwogs in Wangduephodrang. It is about four hours walk from the nearest road head.
Although people depend on agriculture produce they haven’t been able to market their produce due to lack of road. They say walking for hours carrying heavy load on their back is difficult.
The villagers were expecting the problem to be solved after the construction of the eight kilometers farm road is complete.
But their expectation was short-lived. The construction of the road had to be suspended because of insufficient fund.
Rubesa’s Gup, Gyeltshen, said the construction of the road was suspended after a consultation with the people of Ula. He said one of the local media had reported that the people of Ula had requested the suspension of the road construction. He said it is not true.
“There was a problem with the road alignment and people of knew about it. The villagers also shared their problem of contributing labour,” said the Gup.
The Gup has requested the Dzongkhag administration to look into the matter.
One and half kilometre of the road is complete and about Nu. 800,000 has been spent. The Gup said they would need at least four million ngultrum more if they are to complete the eight kilometer road.
The road was being constructed under the Constituency Development Grant.
